Description:
The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia seeks an Executive Director of the Foundation and Vice President of the Seminary
Founded in 1864, The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (LTSP) is a diverse, academically rigorous community whose mission is to prepare leaders for public ministry in a distinctive metropolitan and multicultural context. Having graduated nearly 4,000 church leaders, the seminary is now in the midst of several ambitious campus renewal and educational initiatives, including the renovation of the campus library and its chapel. The seminary is located on a beautiful, tree-lined 14-acre campus in the heart of the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, a rich community with an intentional history of encouraging diversity. LTSP’s newly-renovated Brossman Center provides LTSP with a state-of-the-art building that includes 13 high-tech classrooms, a large-scale flexible lecture and event hall, and places for students and faculty to gather for intimate conversation.
The LTSP Foundation exists to continue growing the theological community; it also provides the requisite funding to build new facilities to meet the challenges of a new century of theological education. Although the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and students’ tuitions provide a small portion of the funds needed for LTSP’s annual operations, the majority of the funds needed for this ministry come from the generosity of congregations and individual donors – visionary men and women who understand and embrace the importance of the seminary’s mission of training pastors, teachers, and other leaders to ensure the future of the Church. The Foundation also works to raise funds for the nearly $650,000 in student aid that LTSP offers each year to relieve the debt burden of their graduates and recruit world-renowned professors and scholars. The annual fund is currently raising $1 million annually.
Qualifications:
The Executive Director of the Foundation will be a strong leader and a highly creative professional with a proven track record in developing and implementing fundraising programs. The ideal candidate must be a strong manager capable of leading a highly accomplished team of professionals. The Executive Director will lead the organization into a capital campaign and take the fundraising operation to the next level. In consultation with the President of the Seminary, and the leadership team, the incumbent is charged with implementing policies of the Foundation and Seminary Board and overseeing all development activities. Additionally, the Executive Director personally conducts major and planned gift solicitation. The Executive Director monitors all investment activities, including compliance by portfolio managers with policies established by the board. The Executive Director will need to have superior communication abilities, creative thinking and strong relationship management skills. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has a desire to help an organization move to the next level and participate in a community that is committed to excellence in theological education for the sake of the Church’s mission in the world.
LTSP is being assisted in this recruitment by Development Resources, inc.
