Under the fresh and energetic leadership of its new president, Rebecca Chopp, Swarthmore College is poised to launch a process to set its strategic direction for the future, leading directly into its next comprehensive campaign. As an early step in preparation, the Development Office is adding two gift officers to its staff in order to deepen relationships with a larger number of alumni. This is an exciting time to join this extraordinary institution of 1500 students and 18,000 alumni whose previous campaign, concluded in December 2006, raised gifts and pledges in excess of $240 million. Associate Directors of Capital Giving enjoy the opportunity to interact with a loyal body of accomplished and diverse alumni notable for their lively intellect and commitment to the improvement of society, in a campus environment that thrives on collegiality and a thoroughgoing commitment to excellence.
The Associate Director is responsible for the identification, engagement and solicitation of Swarthmore alumni, parents and friends having the capacity to make philanthropic commitments of $100,000 or larger to the college. The Associate Director will manage the College’s relationships with a portfolio of approximately 200 capital gifts prospects and will travel regularly in order to discharge these responsibilities. S/he will be responsible for building professional relationships within the division of Development and Alumni Relations and across campus and in the community and in professional networks as appropriate. S/he will also be responsible for initiating regional strategies that support identification and engagement of donor prospects and volunteers.
