Description:

The Community Foundation seeks a creative and entrepreneurial professional who will carry primary responsibility for asset development, donor relations, professional advisor outreach, marketing, and communications. In addition, the Vice President for Development will share responsibility with the President for new initiatives, and community outreach.

1. Design, implement and oversee a comprehensive asset development plan to build permanent endowment assets and operating funds in concert with the Asset Building Committee and Board of Trustees

2. Develop and expand relationships between the Community Foundation and current and potential donors, including local nonprofit boards, to encourage new funds and additions to existing funds

3. Deepen the Community Foundation’s outreach to professional advisors across the region

4. Represent and promote the Community Foundation with community groups, business and civic leaders, media gatekeepers, and the general public

5. Build the Legacy Society of deferred gift donors through the promotion of planned giving

6. Position the Community Foundation as a trusted partner and desired advisor among diverse/local philanthropies

7. Understand, advocate for, and work in support of the Community Foundation’s grantmaking programs with prospects and donors

8. Research and write proposals in support of the Community Foundation’s work

9. Assist the President with new initiatives and oversight of Community Foundation projects

Qualifications:

• Thorough understanding of and strong commitment to the Community Foundation’s goals and mission.
• Specialized knowledge of major gifts, planned giving, and annual appeal fund-raising.
• Able to work effectively with wealthy individuals, professional advisors and nonprofit boards.
• Experience working effectively with volunteers, boards, and committees.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability and willingness to work closely with other colleagues as a team; experience and comfort in working with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
• Able to listen and to ask leading questions which encourage prospects and donors to talk about themselves and their philanthropic activities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation development
• Energy, integrity, judgment, discretion, maturity and flexibility
• Ability to take initiative and work independently to develop new business opportunities
• Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
• Creative thinker.
• Technology proficiency, email and Internet usage, and ability to learn customized relational database software.
• Experience working with a nonprofit organization or foundation.
