"The Charity-Advisor Partnership: Working with Your Donors' Advisors to Achieve More Meaningful Gifts"
The gift planner that represents a charitable organization is just one member of the donor’s planning team. Given the many goals and objectives that are part of the donor’s overall estate and financial plans, how can gift planners integrate their expertise with that provided by the donor’s other advisors? Come hear more about creating an effective charity-advisor partnership, and learn how to help our donors to better achieve their philanthropic goals.

Bruce Makous, ChFC, CAP, CFRE is a Fundraising Consultant at Barnes & Roche, Inc., a Rosemont, PA Institutional Advancement and Resource Development firm. Mr. Makous has been a professional fundraiser for over twenty-seven years, with leadership positions in major educational, healthcare, and arts organizations. In 2009, he was named by the Nonprofit Times one of the “Most Influential and Effective” fundraisers in the US, an honor reserved for only fourteen individuals annually.
Mr. Makous most recently served as Vice President for Development at Multiple Sclerosis Association of America. Previously, he served on the staff or as a consultant with a number of leading institutions, including Drexel University, American Association for Cancer Research, The American College, The Pew Charitable Trusts, Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, Library Company of Philadelphia, Jeanne Ruddy Dance Company, and others.
Mr. Makous is a frequent lecturer, with such presentations as “The Art of the Ask” at the 2009 National Conference on Philanthropic Planning, is the author of many articles on fundraising ethics, and has served on the faculty of the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) program at The American College. He serves on the national board of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning and is immediate past president of PPP of Greater Philadelphia. He served on the international board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and is past president of AFP Greater Philadelphia Chapter.
Mr. Makous has been granted the Certified Fundraising Executive status by the International CFRE Board, and the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy and Chartered Financial Consultant by The American College. He has an MA from New York University and a BA from Oberlin College.
